Inspector Nick Romanchuk off to Kelowna as Officer in Charge

The Commanding Officer of “E” Division, Deputy Commissioner Craig Callens, and the District Commander of the Southeast District, Chief Supt Mike Sekela, are pleased to formally announce the appointment of Inspector Nick Romanchuk to the position of Officer in Charge of Kelowna RCMP Detachment, and congratulate him in his promotion.
Insp. Romanchuk brings a diversified portfolio of operational policing experience from his 22 years of service with the RCMP as well as extensive detachment command experience throughout southern British Columbia over the past 13 1/2 years.
He is currently the Officer in Charge of Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment, responsible for providing a police service to the 15 municipalities and the majority of the two Regional Districts within the West Kootenay/Boundary area.
This is a tremendous opportunity for me and my family, Insp. Romanchuk said.
My wife and two daughters are very excited by the prospect of beginning the next chapter of our lives in Kelowna and enjoying all that the community has to offer, noted .

As part of the hiring committee I was able to see first-hand that Nick’s leadership skills are proven, progressive and innovative. We are pleased Nick has chosen Kelowna to call home and lead our community safety efforts.
Insp. Romanchuk will be promoted to the rank of Superintendent in the near future as he assumes his duties as Detachment Commander of Kelowna RCMP.
Insp. Romanchuk, who was born and raised in Saskatchewan, joined the RCMP in 1991. After completing his Basic Recruit Training at Depot he was transferred to Lillooet, BC where he was stationed from 1991 to 1995. From there he was transferred to the Kamloops Sub-Division Customs & Excise Section where he investigated offenses against a number of Federal statutes. In 1998 he was transferred to the Southeast District Customs & Excise Section where he continued with this work.
In 1999, Insp. Romanchuk was promoted to the rank of Corporal and transferred to Nakusp Detachment where he served in his first position as a Detachment Commander. In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and became the Detachment Commander in Lumby.
He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in 2004 as the Detachment Commander at Trail & Greater District Detachment. In 2008, he was commissioned and promoted to the rank of Inspector as the first Officer in Charge of Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment; a detachment structure that he and his team built from the ground up.
I feel extremely honoured and privileged to have been entrusted with serving the City of Kelowna and surrounding communities as their Chief of Police. It is a responsibility that I do not take lightly. It is clear that the people who work at Kelowna Detachment, whether as police officers or in a variety of capacities that support our policing efforts, are extremely dedicated individuals and I look forward to joining with them to continue their efforts at improving the safety of our communities, stated Insp. Romanchuk.
