UPDATED: Victim of fatal plane crash identified as Nelson resident

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following an airplane crash near Crawford Bay on June 12. He was Anthony Arnold (Tony) Quibell, aged 53, of Nelson.
Quibell was the pilot and sole occupant of a Cessna Skymaster 337 airplane, which took off from Nelson airport at about 1:30 p.m. on June 12 for a flight to Saskatchewan.
The plane was reported missing later that evening when it had failed to arrive at its destination. Early the next morning, the wreckage of the plane was spotted in a heavily treed area at the 6,500-foot level of a mountain near Crawford Bay.
Quibell was deceased at the scene. The BC Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board continue to investigate this death. The family has been notified of his death.

A fatal plane crash near Crawford Bay Wednesday will see investigative crews using helicopters, then hiking in to examine the crash site, according to the Transportation Safety Board (TSB).
TSB official Bill Yearwood said a team has been deployed to investigate the crash of a small, twin-engine Cessna 337 that took off from Nelson at about 1 p.m. yesterday en route to La Ronge, Sask.
The plane was found late last night, after a concerned citizen caled and prompted a search. The pilot died in the crash. The cause of the crash is, as yet, unknown, and the name of the pilot is not being released at this time.
“We’re hoping to get into the site later today or tomorrow morning,” Yearwood said. “It’ll be a challenge (to determine the cause of the crash), just getting in there is a challenge.
“This type of aircraft doesn’t normally have any kind of flight recorders. I’m expecting we’ll have to stick to basics and look at scars on vegetation, the wreckage trail and so on. It’ll probably take us awhile to determine what happened.”
