Fire on Eighth Avenue this morning quickly extinguished

Castlegar Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 3400 block of 8th Avenue shortly after 7 a.m. Friday.
“The owners of the residence were home at the time of the fire and noticed the smoke,” said fire chief Gerry Rempel. “One of the occupants extinguished the fire prior to CFD arrival.
“Smoke was ventilated from the structure by fire deptartment personnel.
“Smoke and property damage are estimated at approximately $5,000,” Rempel added. “There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is accidental at this time.”
