Perry Ridge fire now 100-per-cent contained
People in the region feeling parched for good news may be refreshed to hear the Perry Ridge fire, about 4.5 km west of Winlaw, is now 100-per-cent contained.
“Since (Aug. 1), the Perry Ridge fire received 19 mm of rain. This precipitation resulted in very little fire activity yesterday and so far today,” according to a Southeast Fire Centre website update.
The update says the 64.5-hectare forest fire now has 84 firefighters and three helicopters at work, with today’s objective will be to fully extinguish hot spots near the fire’s perimeter and continue mopping up 37 feet into the centre of the fire.
“Because the burn is patchy and there is so much unburned fuel, mop-up will be a labour-intensive process that will keep firefighters committed to the fire throughout the week.”
The blaze was caused by lightning.
