Leaking dynamite stops traffic on Riverside Drive
Police have barricaded off Riverside Drive around the 75 to 77th Street crossroads after they discovered someone was moving dynamite through the area.
According to Cpl. Kevin Christensen, the individual transporting the dynamite had “good intentions” and wanted to dispose of it with the help of the local fire department or RCMP
RCMP received a report that the dynamite was being transported and told the individual to park his vehicle. When the vehicle was inspected, they found over 30 sticks of dynamite, which was old and sweating. This meant it was volatile and unstable.
The police called the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) and were told there was little risk of it exploding, but to set up a perimeter around the dynamite. Local RCMP are waiting for the EDU to drive from Vancouver to safely handle the dynamite.
Currently, Riverside Drive is only open to foot traffic, but the police are hoping to let a line of traffic through with the help of the Grand Forks Fire Rescue.
