UPDATED: Kaslo drowning victim identified

The BC Coroner Service has identified Randolph Peter (Randy) Lundblad, aged 73, of Kaslo, as the victim in a Mirror Lake drowning Sunday.
“(He) had ridden his bicycle to Mirror Lake, about five kilometres south of the town in the early afternoon of Aug. 18,” said a release issued today. “He was seen to dive into the lake and shortly thereafter to be in trouble in the water. The witnesses were unable to rescue him and he was deceased at the scene.”
Lundblad’s family has been notified.

The body of a presumed drowning victim was found this afternoon, according to RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little.
“At approximately 12:15 p.m. this date the body of the 73-year-old male who was reported missing in Mirror Lake was located by the RCMP Dive Team,” Little said.
“The male was in approximately 45 feet of water, close to where he was last seen,” he said. “Locating the male proved more difficult than expected as the bottom of the lake is covered in a significant layer of mud. The male’s body had sunken about two feet into the mud, making him difficult to see.
“The RCMP are still attempting to locate the next of kin, and as such no name is being released. Foul play is not suspected and the case will be turned over to the BC Coroners Service.”

A 73-year-old local man is presumed drowned at Mirror Lake today, according to Kaslo RCMP Cpl. Shaun Begg.
“At approximately (1 p.m.), the Kaslo RCMP and Emergency Health Services responded to a report of 73-year-old local area man, missing and presumed to have drowned in Mirror Lake,” Begg said in a press release this evening. “Witnesses observed the male on the dock/dive platform. The male dove into the lake swam around for a short period of time (approximately 3-5 minutes).
“Witnesses reported that a faint call for help was heard and the elderly male was observed to be in distress. Two witnesses rendered assistance to the male but were unable to reach him before he had gone under the water. The male failed to resurface.”
Begg said the RCMP dive team has been called in and the file is still under investigation.
