Two forest fires in the region are keeping Southeast Fire Centre crews busy, according to information officer Karlie Shaughnessy.

Both fires were discovered yesterday, appear to be ligthning-caused and are not threatening any homes, structures, communities or power lines.

The larger one is just east of Castlegar on the ridge above the airport. About 0.7 hectares in size, the blaze is being fought by two initial attack crews of three each and one officer.

The second, on Baldy Mountain, has nine firefighters working and two helicopters bucketing about 3.5 km southeast of Rossland. The fire is about 0.2 hectares in size.
