Update:

Apparently (and thankfully), Friday the 13th is not, in this case, living up to its ominous reputation, as RCMP Sgt. Darryl Little reports the safe return of a missing Nakusp man.

“Peter Arends has been located safe and sound,” Little said. “Mr Arends had traveled to the Revelstoke side of the Arrow Lakes yesterday ,and his truck broke down near Odin Mountain.

“He slept in his vehicle overnight and walked out to the highway this morning. He was pick-up hitch-hiking and taken to the ferry in some distress,” Little added. “An ambulance was called, which transported him to Revelstoke hospital where he was treated and released.”

Previous story:

The RCMP would like to thank the Search and Rescue members, the media and members of the general public for all their assistance.

The Naksup RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 77yearold Peter Arends, who was reported missing by his wife at 8:30 p.m. on Sept 12, according to Sgt. Darryl Little

Arends was last seen by his wife at approximately 8 a.m. Thursday morning when he left to check a friend’s cabin near Halcyon Hot Springs, then go mushroom picking,” Little said. “Peter has some health conditions that require daily medication, which he did not take with him and it is believed he was not prepared to spend the night outdoors.

Search and Rescue was activated and searched a number of the known mushroompicking areas without success last evening and into the early morning hours. The search was suspended at approximately 2:30 a.m., however, has recommenced this morning with the assistance of the RCMP helicopter.”

Arends is described as 6 3 inches tall, weighing 240 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He was driving a white 2005 Chevrolet crew cab pickup truck with BC Licence DF1768.

“Anyone who spots this vehicle or sees Arends is asked to call the Nakusp RCMP at 250-265-3677.”
