No injuries after Tuesday fire at Maranatha Court
There were no injuries and minimal damage after a fire at Maranatha Court yesterday afternoon, according to fire chief Gerry Rempel.
Rempel said the call went to police first, then was sent through fire dispatch at 1:39 p.m.
“We attended, but by then the fire was out – it had gone out by itself, I think a long time before, because it was quite cool to the touch.”
The originated in a large container (likely a flower pot) outside on the porch, where it seared the wall and siding before homeowners noticed the black scorch marks.
“I’m not exactly sure when it happened,” Rempel said, adding he can’t even say, at this time, whether the fire is suspicious in nature.
“There are a few possible causes,” he said.
Rempel estimated about $1,000 in damage to the porch floor and siding.
The investigation continues.
