Salmo and Ymir firefighters are going home exhausted today after containing a blaze that burned Scrap Kings Auto Wreckers’ office to the ground – but was not allowed to spread to adjacent vehicle storage areas.

Salmo fire chief David Hearn said the department got a call around 10:20 a.m., and arrived to find the fire fully involved.

Two engines and one tender from Salmo as well as one engine and one tender from Ymir attended, and had the fire contained by about 5:30 p.m.

The cause has not been determined and there are no damage estimates available at this time.

No one was injured in the conflagration.

Chief Hearn said some tires burned, but they were able to keep the fire away from the storage yard and any combustible fuels therein.
