Ed. Note: This letter is in response to a variety of comments on The Source’s Facebook page regarding the closure of Kootenay Savings Credit Union’s downtown branch.

Dear Editor:

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!

Oh, nope, sorry … just a local Credit Union changing its service model.

Inconvenient? Yes.

End of the world? No.

So many people have downtown Castlegar dead and buried. What a shame.

Why can’t we be like Nelson, why can’t we have our own Baker Street?! Well folks, ’cause we are not Nelson.

If you want a vibrant downtown, then get involved. Come out and support the stores, do the Sculpturewalk stroll, check out the Art Farm … there is a lot to do if you open your minds.

I have worked downtown for 23 years and I see change and it is for the better. More and more people from out of town are coming in and telling us daily how beautiful and charming our city is. They see the beauty and the diverse business. They come in with open eyes and open hearts.

Free parking they say, who offers that? Wow, how nice. How many sculptures? OMG and an Art walk.

Before we have a funeral service, why not take a walk on the wild side and check out what we do have instead of complaining about what we don’t have. I am a true downtown believer.

But then, I am an activist not a slacktavist.
