Mother Nature not done yet with winter

Drivers heading over the Kootenay Pass can expect extreme weather conditions said Marc Dale, Operations Manager / SE Kootenay for Yellowhead Road and Bridge.
Dale said the forecast for the next 24 hours is for heavy snow fall at elevations over 800 meters and a mix of rain and snow in the valleys.
“The overnight rains we are experiencing along with the temperatures hovering around minus-5 to plus-3 Celsius is bringing the frost out of the ground and creating flash freezing in the mornings,” Dale said in a YRB release.
“There will be extreme winter driving conditions over Kootenay Pass (Monday) morning as well as the potential for Avalanche Control based on snow accumulations.”
Dale is advising the traveling public to Drive BC for updated conditions before heading out Monday.
Dale said depending on temperatures there will be steady precipitation overnight and through the morning tomorrow in the valleys.
“Steady rain mixed with snow will create driving conditions that require extra time for driving,” he said.
Environment Canada is calling for snow now mixed with rain Sunday evening with amounts between 5 to 10 centimeters and a low plus 1 Celsius.
For Monday, snow mixed with rain ending in the morning then cloudy and a 60 percent chance of rain showers in the evening
Snowfall expected is two centimeters with the level rising to 1000 metres early in the evening with a high of 6 C.
Dale is cautioning the public to aware of flash freezing occurring in early morning hours.
