High accumulation of snow at higher elevation leads to slow going on area highways

Monsoon-like weather in the southern interior of BC is making travel in and around the region very slow as highways officials close at least two roads due to avalanche control on passes.
For most of Thursday, traffic on Highway 3 between Salmo and Creston was re-routed after officials closed the Kootenay Pass.
Traffic was diverted to Highway 3A and the Kootenay Lake Ferry causing delays due to high volume.
The road between Meadow Creek and Kaslo has also been reduced to alternating single lane traffic with up to 15-minute delays as crews remove avalanche deposits.
The recent weather system that dropped upwards of 25 centimeters of snow at higher elevations and rain in the valley bottoms is expected to pass through the area early Friday.
Environment Canada is calling for a 40 percent chance of precipitation Friday and cloudy skies for Saturday.
