New Denver Mayor Ann Bunka releases a statement following the weekend boating accident

Saturday (May 10) at approximately 5:30 p.m., Slocan Lake RCMP were notified of two people holding onto a partially submerged canoe in Slocan Lake.
Four people, ranging in age from 16-21 years, had departed from New Denver and planned to canoe to Roseburry on far side of Slocan Lake, a distance of approximately six kilometers.
One person is confirmed dead while Search and Rescue crews, as well as RCMP dive teams, are searching Slocan Lake for the missing three young men.
Village of New Denver Mayor Ann Bunka released a statement on behalf of council and residents along Slocan Lake.
This is a small community and every accident and loss is personal. This is a close knit community that rallies together in times of need and never has this been more apparent.
The outpouring of assistance to do whatever is needed is a trademark of this community and in times of loss is a reminder of why we live here.
We would like to thank the New Denver and Area Fire Department, B.C. Ambulance, RCMP and the Arrow Lakes Search and Rescue in addition to all the volunteers of the community who continue to work on our behalf.
Counselling has been made available to all.
The families and friends of the deceased and missing are grieving and need time to deal with this.
