A howling good time to be had as Trail night life goes to the dogs

From high art to puppy love to a good cause, Trail’s newest night out has a little something for everyone. Sarah Fulcher is co-owner of Barks and Recreation (providing pet supplies, training and daycare) – but she’s also a volunteer with the BC SPCA council and Trail Regional Branch, doing a lot of advocacy, fundraising and humane education.

“The SPCA is funded almost entirely through donations, so we wanted to do another major fundraiser to compliment Paws for a Cause,” Fulcher said. “People sometimes complain there’s not much to do here, so we thought it would be fun to make it a night out – but something more than just dinner out.”

Since a love of animals is often paired with a love of the arts, the idea of Art Bark was born – a night with musicians, dancers, entertainers and both silent and live auctions featuring local artists.

“It’s at the Riverbell on the Esplanade, and the buffet dinner will be catered by the Colander Restaurant, with vegetarian options available,” Fulcher said. “All the money we raise will stay in the area, with our local SPCA.

“It’ll be a really fun time, and add a little cultural injection for Trail night life.” In fact, she said it should be so much fun that this year’s Art Bark will be the first annual, with the event recurring every year. You can buy tickets online or at Barks and Rec, Scotiabank, BC SPCA in Trail; Mountain FM in Castlegar and Tails Pet Supplies in Rossland, or visit the event’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/237249536459504/?fref=ts for more information.
