One step closer to making Riverfront Centre a reality

The Trail Historical Society has been awarded $20,000 by the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance towards capital costs of the proposed Riverfront Centre, which will join Trail’s library and museum facilities.
“We are thrilled to kick off our capital fundraising campaign with this announcement and are grateful to the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance (CKCA) and the Columbia Basin Trust for their continued support of heritage preservation and exhibition in the region,” said society president Jamie Forbes.
The Trail Historical Society and the Trail & District Library are currently identifying sources of capital funding to reduce the facility’s capital budget, thereby decreasing the overall cost to the Trail taxpayer.
“Our goal is to bring the $6.29 million construction budget down considerably through grants and fundraising. In doing so, the borrowing amount will be reduced. This initial $20,000 will act as leverage when making requests to other funders,” explains Forbes.
The proposed location is situated at the corner of Bay Avenue and Helena Street, on the former Eagles lot. Featuring the new museum and archives on the main floor and the library on the second floor, the facility will see the integration of the Trail Historical Society’s operations by bringing the museum and archives under one roof. The facility will also provide for increased programming opportunities for both organizations and offer enhanced learning and cultural experiences for Trail residents and its visitors.
While this $20,000 awarded by the CKCA is dedicated strictly to the museum and gallery space, it is the first official commitment by a major funder towards the project.
