Hello, my name is Kevin Chernoff and I am seeking your vote on November 15th as a Re-elected Castlegar City Councillor. I have lived in Castlegar all my life, married my true loveTrish, and raised our beautiful daughter Megan – all here in a place we call home.

People often want to know why I would want to run for a position as a Castlegar City Councillor.

The answer is, so I can continue to make Castlegar a place your family and mine want to work, live, play and raise our children.

One of the most important things we have done as a council is to establish a plan for long term infrastructure expenditures, which included a three-year road rehabilitation and replacement program, along with necessary water, sewer upgrades and expansions. It may not be glamourous, but it is what makes the rest of our community plans possible.

We can have good, in fact great, infrastructure – but if no one wants to live here, great infrastructure planning does not, in itself, make for a great community. A community is so much more. Castlegar is so much more.

Together with you, our community has accomplished some amazing things.

Winner of Communities in Bloom (small city competition) on an international level. Think about that for a second. We competed against communities all over the world and we were recognized as being the top in our class. You just need to look around to see what the judges had seen, and you’ll know why.

Our Sculpture Walk program has allowed us to go from a small sleepy town to a community that can boast that we are the Sculpture Capital of Canada – have more sculptures per capita than any other place in Canada. We have some pretty amazing public art around our community.

Another great project, both for our community’s enjoyment and as a destination to attract visitors from throughout North America, is the Millennium Park project. If you didn’t get a chance to see all the families enjoying the ponds this summer, then you have missed something very special. These are all projects I have supported both through council and my personal volunteering efforts.

With many more projects to come, this is an exciting time for our community, and one that I would like to be a part of. My priorities for the future will include retention and expansion of our hospital services, reliability of the West Kootenay Regional Airport, expansion of facilities at Millennium Park and our infrastructure.

What people may not recognize though, is that these are all economic drivers for our city, creating employment and attracting tourist dollars.

The countless hours of the many volunteers are what make the fabric and drive the spirit of this community and have made it into something we can all be proud to call our home.

I will be posting videos throughout the next month on what the individual committees that make up the City do and how they relate to you.  Possible topics could cover Hospital, Budget and Finance, Public Works, Protective Services, Planning and Development, West Kootenay Regional Airport and Green. By following my Facebook page, you will be informed immediately after release of any of my new videos.

So on November 15th, I respectfully ask you to vote to Re-elect Kevin Chernoff for Castlegar City Council and Keep Castlegar Moving Forward.

Thank you.
