Frog wins People's Choice at Sculpturewalk Gala

“Northern Leopard Frog” by local Krestova artists Kevin Kratz and James Karthein, won big at the 2014 Castlegar Sculpturewalk Awards, taking home both the coveted People’s Choice Award and the Artistic Merit Award. This is the first time ever that a sculpture has won in both categories, and the second time that Kratz & Karthein have won the People’s Choice Award (“Patient Hunter”, their steel heron, took home the prize in 2012).

People’s Choice Awards:
1) $15,000 (sculpture purchase) + $3000 cash = “Northern Leopard Frog” by Kevin Kratz & James Karthein
2) $1500 = “Sphere” by Carl Schlichting (Winlaw, bC)
3) $500 (tie) = “Sea Swimmer” by Heather Wall (Powell River, BC) “Saturday’s Distractions” by Lee Leuning & Sherri Treeby (South Dakota)
Artist Merit Awards:
1) $3000 = “Northern Leopard Frog” by Kevin Kratz & James Karthein (Krestova, BC)
2) $1500 = “Zodiac Totem” by Pokey Park (Tucson, Arizona)
3) $500 = “The Kiss” by Serge Mozhnevsky (Coquitlam, BC)
Featuring performers Lucas Myers, Bessie Wapp & Friends, and the Circus Acts Insomniacs, the awards Cabaret was held on Saturday, November 8th at the Element Club Bar & Grill.
