Grand Forks has a new millionaire in town, Frank Senger. Playing the same random set of numbers that he pulled from a hat when he first started playing the lottery, Senger hit the jackpot on February 18, 2015.
Senger purchased his weekly Lotto 6/49 ticket at the Pharmasave in Grand Forks with his usual numbers just ahead of the Wednesday draw. When he went back to check the ticket a few days later he was in for a surprise.
“I noticed that the Check-A-Ticket machine had a lot of writing on it and I thought it said ‘not a winner’,” Senger recounts. “When I looked closer, it was a five and a lot of zeros.”
Just to make sure, Senger confirmed the jackpot win with the retailer.
“She started screaming and yelling,” Senger recalls. “People started hugging me and seemed just as excited as I was.”
With eight children, 18 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nine brothers and sisters, Senger has a large family to share in all the excitement.
“I knew eventually I was going to win, it was just a matter of when,” states Senger.
There is no set plan for the winnings as of yet. Senger will be taking his time to decide what to do with the money while the reality of how much life has changed sets in.
