Dam City Rollers gearing up for new season

Castlegar’s fun, feisty, and fearless women of the flat track are back on their skates and ready for the 2015 roller derby season! The Dam City Rollers had a stellar 2014 season; the team went undefeated and brought home the “golden boot” as the West Kootenay Roller Derby regional champions.  The team is looking to repeat last year’s success and bring home the top prize for a second year in a row.

The Dam’s roster has undergone a slight change this year; two of the team’s core veteran skaters will be imparting their knowledge from the sidelines this season, one skilled skaters who previously hung up her skates has put them back on, and four fresh meat have been trained up and added to the team’s roster. The team has been practising hard since the beginning of January, refining their team work and incorporating new skills, drills, and strategies into their arsenal. 

The first bouts of the season will be taking place on March 14that the Selkirk College Castlegar Gymnasium; The Dam City Rollers will be defending their home turf against the Nelson Killjoys at 5 pm and the Salmo/Slocan Valley Brutality will be taking on the Rossland Trail Roller Girls at 7 pm.  Feel free to skip dinner; thanks of the generous donations of Steve’s NoFrills and Kootenay Market the Dams will be holding a fundraiser BBQ. Smokies and hotdogs will be available for purchase during the bouts. Tickets for the March 14thbout will be available in advance at Central City Shoes for $10 or at the door for $15. Kids 12 and under $2.

Bouts are also scheduled for April 18thand May 23rdin the Trail Cominco Gymnasium. The semi-final bouts will take place at the Selkirk College Castlegar Campus on June 7th, followed by the WKRD finals on June 27thin the Nelson Arena. To get the full seasons schedule and ticketing information please visit www.kootenayrollerderby.com
