On June 12, 2015, Coquitlam RCMP’s very own Cpl. Nigel Blake, along with a team of more than 75 riders, will embark on the 2015 Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC) Battlefield Bike Ride in Western Europe supporting the WWC’s outstanding programs. In eight days, the 600-km ride will take Blake and other riding warriors from the iconic Vimy Ridge Memorial in France through historic battlefields to the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands.

In 2006, Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC) was founded with the goal of assisting and improving the quality of life of ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and their families. The non-profit organization has grown over the years and is now helping to find solutions for CAF and RCMP members who have been wounded or injured in their service to Canada. The primary focus is on those dealing with mental health-related issues, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Operation Stress Injuries (OSI).

I’m very proud of Nigel’s determination and dedication in this noble cause. Everyone at the detachment is very supportive and we are doing everything we can to help Nigel to exceed his fundraising goal, said Inspector Bryon Massie, Acting Office-in-Charge of Coquitlam RCMP.

For the 2015 ride, Blake is committed to raising a minimum of $4,000 for WWC and will be hosting a number of events over the next few weeks to reach his fundraising goal.

Blake is an RCMP officer with 15 years of service and is currently a patrol supervisor at the Coquitlam RCMP Detachment. Before coming to Coquitlam, he was posted at the Explosive Disposal Unit as a Police Explosive Technician. Blake volunteered for an overseas mission in the RCMP’s International Policing Program, and was deployed to Afghanistan with the NATO Training Mission as a Police Counter Improvised Explosive Device Subject Matter Expert where he assisted in the training of Afghan National Security Forces from 2011 to 2012.
