Whitewater's Community Day a huge success — 40th anniversary party, Winter Carnival on tap this weekend
More snow than . . . any hill in the province?
Yup!
And Whitewater Ski Hill is taking advantage of the amazing season by giving back by hosting first ever Community Day last Friday.
Skiers from all over the region enjoyed the great snow conditions for only $10 and each of those dollars resulted in a $5540 donation for both the Nelson Cares Society and Avalanche Awareness Beyond the Boundaries (A.A.B.B.S.), not to mention the abundance of food donated to the Nelson Food Cupboard.
This week Whitewater is putting the best snowfall of any resort in the West — an accumulation of 540 cm / 212 inches and a snow base hovering around two meters — on display to celebrate its 40th Anniversary Celebration Friday (January 15).
The party kicks off at the resort with return of the beloved Master Blaster competition, fortieth style, followed by an Old School Ski Moves contest in the terrain park.
There will be other contests such as Oldest Season Pass and Most Number of Season Passes, food specials and Nelson Brewing Company’s special Whitewater anniversary beer Bent Pole on tap.
There will be live music in the lodge by Dirt Floor, the band that holds some of the same talent that helped to create the music behind the anniversary film “40 Years Young” by Freeride Entertainment which will be shown Friday at the resort as well.
The fun continues through the weekend, Saturday marks the 7th annual Winter Carnival at Whitewater Ski Resort.
A full weekend is planned with kid scavenger hunts, snow sculpting contests and the Snowball Apres with an incredible buffet dinner put on by the chefs at Whitewater, live music by LINT, a torchlight parade and fireworks. And that is only Saturday! Sunday brings Avalanche Awareness, more marshmallows and the Gerick’s Summit Cup.
For those in Rossland that want to join the Saturday festivities, Mountain Shuttle is running a shuttle for the day.
