MLA Conroy pans 2016 budget
In a budget that rewards the wealthiest British Columbians at the expense of all other citizens, Christy Clark maintained a billion-dollar tax cut for millionaires and created a slush fund with unfair MSP tax hikes.
“This is not a budget for B.C. families,” said Katrine Conroy, MLA. “This budget continues the tax break for the wealthiest, and provides no new investment in important government services like education and health care that citizens in Kootenay West need.”
“Local School Districts in my constituency are struggling to provide the education they know the students in this area need and deserve. The Government has chosen not to address these important concerns and are allowing the education system to suffer,” said Conroy. “Instead the Liberal Government created a so-called Prosperity Fund and they have put the $100 million from this year’s MSP tax increase into that Fund that was supposed to have been filled with profits from LNG.”
“This government could have tried to make life more affordable for all citizens. Instead the budget continues Christy Clark’s practice of taking more money from the pockets of British Columbians through hikes to MSP, ICBC rates, camping fees, ferry fares and more,” said Conroy. “This budget shows clearly that the premier and her government are not there supporting hard-working B.C. families.”
