Seven teams consisting of more than 120 riders will take a seat to save a life this April in Trail. The Heart and Stroke Big Bike is making its way across the country, rolling into Trail on April 29.

Presented by the Dairy Farmers of Canada, the Heart and Stroke Big Bike is one of the primary community fundraising events for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. This fun-filled event earned its name from the 30-seat bicycle teams of energetic riders who pedal through 200 communities in nine provinces coast to coast – raising awareness and funds in support of heart disease and stroke research along the way.

This year we aim to raise $1.5 million dollars in BC alone, with Trail’s goal set at $10,000. Through events like Heart and Stroke Big Bike, we’re transforming how communities think about, prevent, manage and live with heart disease and stroke.

Back by popular demand, the team which raises the highest amount in their region will win an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to be placed in the community location of their choice. Heart and Stroke is giving away AEDs to the winners, so those who have cardiac arrest a better chance at survival. Cardiac arrest strikes suddenly and affects people of all ages. Without immediate help, someone in cardiac arrest could suffer brain damage within three minutes; after 12 minutes survival is unlikely.
