Spring Fling is finally here!
Spring hasn’t officially arrived in Castlegar until you get to Fling it – and that day is finally here!
Saturday will see the 11th Annual Spring Fling Festival, with tons of entertainment, vendors, food and fun, as well as the classic car show and the famous three-on-three street hockey tourneys, this year expanded to include more age categories.
Today (Wednesday) is, however, the last day to get your hockey registration or vendor applications in, so don’t waste a second getting those submitted so you can be front-and-centre for one of the city’s signature events.
“I need more of the young guys to register, ages 16 to 30,” said Angela Jack, adding she can be reached at 250-365-0014 or angela.springfling@gmail.com
Jack is one of several key volunteers helping to make the Spring Fling happen, and there are also more volunteers who help with setting up, tearing down, and throughout the day itself (April 30 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
“We welcome anyone coming down to Kinsman Park Friday at 6 p.m. to help set up the rinks,” she said, adding volunteers also help out Saturday with the kids’ booths and games, while many of the performers are local talent offering their time to make the event bigger, better and more fun every year.
“We’re really excited for this year,” she said. “We’re really hoping the weather cooperates – last year was amazing, so we’re hoping for a repeat.”
Thousands of people wander the area throughout the day, so it’s also a great place to see friends and neighbours, meet your fire department and Search and Rescue volunteers, Miss Castlegar and her princesses, and more.
