An incident Wednesday afternoon saw traffic on the Trail Bridge brought to a stand-still for roughly 45 minutes.

Trail RCMP Cpl. Darryl Orr said police were called at just before 1 p.m. with reports of a man in distress, and arrived to find the man had climbed high atop the bridge and was threatening to commit suicide.

“Fire services brought their ladder truck and extended the ladder to the top of the bridge,” Orr said, adding Const. Matt Hope then climbed the ladder and assisted the man off the bridge without incident.

“The man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to Trail hospital for treatment.”

Traffic flow over the bridge was resumed at roughly 1:45 p.m., but took about a half-hour to clear due to the back up.
