Come try a taste of Thailand - for a real trip

A fabulous Thai dinner AND the knowledge you’re pitching in for a good cause – that’s what New Life Assembly has in store for Castlegar on April 29 as they fundraise to send 18 youth to Thailand for humanitarian work.
The dinner, to be overseen by Dairy Queen owner Tim Kenna, will be gluten-free, and will include hot sweet-and-sour Thai salad, Thai red chicken curry, and sweet black rice pudding for dessert.
The dinner will begin at 5 p.m. at New Life Assembly (602 7 Street) in the basement. Ticket prices are just $20 for an adult and $12 for children under age 12. There will be live entertainment, and all proceeds will go towards the Thailand trip.

“New Life Church and Kinnaird Park Church are sending 18 youth to Takua Pa, Thailand to assist in humanitarian efforts in areas such as orphanages, urban and rural youth work, as well as teaching English in a community learning centre,” said pastor James McFaddin. “The group, led by Benjamin Padilla and Rachel McFaddin, will be leaving Castlegar by van on July 3, and starting the nearly 20-hour journey from Vancouver BC to Bangkok on July 4. Upon landing in Bangkok they will then travel by bus through challenging terrain all the way to Takua Pa. The entire journey will take over 32 hours, not including layovers. The youngest travellers on the trip will be Paige (12) and Talia (10) McFaddin, who are looking forward to learning more about the world, and growing in their multicultural perspective.”
The teens, partnered with Imagine Thailand and the UN, will also be helping internally displaced children regain their identities. Their identities and familial ties were lost during the 2004 Tsunami that saw hundreds of thousands killed, and tens of thousands of children left orphaned.
“It’s an incredible opportunity for our youth to go out and serve beyond the four walls of their homes and schools. Our heart is for these teens to not only be a positive impact in Takua Pa, but to also come back with a broader world-view and a desire to come along side anyone who may be in need in our community of Castlegar. We believe this opportunity will build a bridge between our youth and the people of Takua Pa so as to see funding and support sent their way for years to come.”
