Get your Sculpturewalking shoes ready! On Saturday, May 13, 30 sculptures will be landing in Castlegar’s downtown, marking the seventh year of the internationally-renowned Castlegar Sculpturewalk.

“It’s truly incredible what Castlegar has accomplished in a relatively short period of time,” said executive director Joy Barrett. “Castlegar is now recognized as the Sculpture Capital of Canada™, we’ve been profiled nationally by the CBC, and we’re attracting tourists from far and wide who have heard about our stunning art. Sculpturewalk is the #1 rated local attraction on TripAdvisor™, and also in the top 10 per cent of all attractions in the Kootenay Rockies region. People now think of art when they think of Castlegar!”

To date, thanks to the People’s Choice Award and Sculpturewalk’s Sales/ Leasing program, Castlegar is now home to over 50 sculptures, an increase of over 2,000 per cent since the program began. Additionally, Nelson, Creston and Rossland are all leasing and purchasing sculptures annually from Castlegar Sculpturewalk, which supports our operations, our regional artists and increases public art.

Creating such a vibrant, dynamic public art program that is recognized and respected world-wide would not have been possible without the vision and support of the City of Castlegar, our business sponsors and supporters, the Regional District (Area J and Affected Area J), the Columbia Basin Trust, Trowelex, Grant Thornton LLP, Canada’s Best Value Inn and Suites, Castlegar News/Black Press, and, of course, the residents of Castlegar who have wholeheartedly embraced Sculpturewalk.
