The company responsible for moving mountains of cash over the internet said its e-Transfer service “is back online and fully operational.”

In a media release on its website, Interac says its e-Transfer service is back up running after it was suspended Friday morning due to technical issues.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this service disruption has caused, as we understand that Canadians rely on the availability, speed and convenience of Interac e-Transfer everyday,” the media release said.

“As a payment network, the technical integrity of the system is paramount for us. A technology issue was encountered that affected the ability of the platform to perform efficiently, causing transfer delays and disruptions. After careful analysis, we made the difficult decision to take the Interac e-Transfer service offline in order to fix the problem. During the disruption, our teams worked diligently to address the issue and restore the service.”

The e-Transfer service was restored Saturday.

Important things to know:

  • The Interac e-Transfer platform is back online and transactions are being processed. Consumers can now send or receive Interac e-Transfer transactions as per usual.
  • Any transfers in transit when the service interruption occurred are secure and will be processed. Consumers are able to deposit funds from existing notifications using the deposit link provided. Consumers who did not receive a notification during the service disruption should receive it shortly now that the service is back online.
  • This was not an attack on our system. It was an internal technical issue. Our system and data remained secure throughout the disruption.
