MVA briefly stops traffic on Hwy 3 Sunday
What could have been a terrible tragedy Sunday was averted thanks to air bags and seatbelts, according to Ootischenia Fire Chief George Hamm.
He said they received a call to attend an MVA at 12:48 p.m. at the corner of Hwy 3 and Columbia Road.
“The six of us were practicing at the hall at the time, so we were able to respond very quickly,” he said.
Crews arrived on scene to find two vehicles, with two people in each, which had collided.
Only one of the four was transported to hospital with minor injuries, according to Hamm.
“All four airbags were fully deployed, and they were all properly buckled in, or it could have been much worse,” he said.
As it was, traffic at the busy intersection was briefly shut down for emergency crews.
“We try to keep the traffic moving as best we can.”
