Cop car involved in MVI that closes Hwy 22

A two-car MVI on Hwy 22 near the Birchbank Golf Course saw traffic brought to a halt Wednesday evening, according to Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue Captain Grant Tyson.

He said the call came in at 5:05 p.m., and three Trail firefighters arrived on scene to a two-vehicle MVI at 5:18 p..m.

“There were three patients with various injuries, and one was required to be extricated with the Jaws of Life.”

RCMP say they are investigating the cause of the crash, which involved an RCMP squad car (the officer was taken to hospital, according to RCMP top cop Darren Oelke).

There is no word as to how long the highway traffic wll be impeded by the investigation.
