Left turns allowed during Columbia construction

The City of Castlegar continues its commitment to improving Columbia Avenue.

Construction on Columbia Avenue was in full swing last week and there appears to be a mis-conception that there are no left turns permitted along Columbia Avenue within the construction zone.

MarWest and the City of Castlegar would like to ensure the public is made aware that left hand turns are permitted throughout the Construction Zone and that all companies are open for business. travelling from the South you can turn left onto 15 Street (the light by Steve’s No Frills) and onto Selkirk Avenue (by Ready Engineering/ Property Guys). Travelling from the North you can turn left onto 13th Street (Napa and Guillevin) and onto Christina Place. MarWest and the City encourage you to utilize Monashee Avenue to access those businesses on the West Side of Columbia Avenue.

Marwest would also like to remind the public to obey all Traffic Control Personnel. They are there for the safety of the workers, pedestrians and motorists alike. Traffic fines double in construction zones (minimum six points and $200) and are currently being enforced by the RCMP.

Traffic flow has been steady; however, at peak traffic times, vehicles may be delayed for a few minutes (current estimated wait time is three minutes). While we understand that traffic delays can be an inconvenience, whenever confronted with a “fast-versus-safe” decision on the road, please choose the safe one.
