The owners of Castlegar’s Speedy Glass are holding a fun family event this Saturday to give back to the community as well as to fundraise for a local, volunteer-driven tourism destination.

Speedy Glass co-owner Stephanie Syme said their Third Annual Customer Appreciation Day at the Salmo Ski Hill gives back to the community in two ways: first, skiers are only asked to pay $5 for a ticket, and second, all money raised will be donated to the Salmo Ski Hill.

The event will go from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

“It’s a lot of fun to be up there after dark – everything is very well-lit,” Syme said. “They have a t-bar, a bunny lift, and there will be people there to give lessons.”

There will also be a bonfire, music, door-prizes (last year they gave away roughly 60 prizes), and an on-site restaurant.

The Salmo skill Hill has been community run since 1962, and all proceeds will go toward hill operations.

“Last year, we were able to donate over $1,800 to the hill,” she said, adding the event is not just for Speedy Glass customers, but rather for the community at large. “We want everyone to come and have fun – and not just skiers and snowboarders,” she said. “They also usually let people toboggan on the far side as well.”

She said they’re hoping to continue with the event every year, as they place a premium on community engagement.

“Our local businesses wouldn’t exist without community support, so it’s important that we give that back … and it feels great, too.”
