MLA applauds investment in local public safety organizations

New Democrat MLA Katrine Conroy is welcoming $185,000 in funding for four local not-for-profit organizations in the West Kootenays. The organizations, which offer important public safety services, are receiving the funds through the Community Gaming Grants program.
“People show what they care about when they volunteer for organizations like these,” said Conroy. “And these people care about keeping their fellow citizens safe. That’s really appreciated.”
Recipients of the gaming grant funding include the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department Society, the South Columbia Search and Rescue Society, the Rossland and District Search and Rescue Society, and the Slocan and District Technical Rescue Society.
“I’m proud that our Government is supporting these groups so that their important services continue to be there for people when they need it,” said Conroy.
Across the province, over 145 public safety-related organizations are receiving more than $6.5 million this year. Through public safety programs, these groups provide emergency and lifesaving services including search and rescue activities, volunteer fire departments, emergency preparedness, community and restorative justice, and more.
The Community Gaming Grants program provides up to $140 million to about 5,000 not-for-profit organizations in British Columbia each year.
