A 33-year-old Trail man may be facing a laundry list of charges after a sharp-eyed, off-duty police officer attending Silver City Days with his family noticed suspicious behaviour, according to RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On May 11, the RCMP Trail Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) conducted an investigation into a 33-year-old male for allegedly trafficking Oxycodone pills along the Esplanade, in downtown Trail, in the Trail Silver City Days fairgrounds,” Wicentowich said. “The suspect’s activity was spotted by an off-duty police officer who reported it to the Trail CRU (Crime Reduction Unit).

“Trail CRU conducted surveillance then arrested the suspect. Trail CRU seized 47.5 pills believed to be Oxycodone and over $1,300 in Canadian currency. The RCMP will be seeking a charge against the 33-year-old male for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.”

Wicentowich said the man was also breaching probation conditions with his alleged activities, and police will likely be seeking addition charges from the Crown.

“Kudos to our guy who was off-duty,” he added, saying the investigation that member’s tip sparked ended with RCMP, “finding a significant load of drugs.”
