Looking for something different to do this winter? Bring the family out to experience live shows at The Bailey Theatre. This season Trail and District Arts Council presents The Teck Family Series, kicking off on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. with the one-hour show Rythmo 2 from Montreal’s SAMAJAM.

SAMAJAM’s Rythmo 2 is an innovative, energizing and educational musical experience for kids and families. All participants receive musical instruments to play during the performance, for a participatory immersion in the world of African rhythms, percussion and dance.

First children learn basic music theory as they familiarize themselves with the rhythm through body percussion and tapping on different parts of their bodies. Then the performers guide the audience to rapidly learn and play drumsticks, musical tubes and tambourines as the audience creates songs together. With more than 80 per cent active participation time it’s impossible to stand by and watch – you are the show!

Why not make it an afternoon of fun with our FREE 30-minute drop-in instrument making activity? Facilitated by the VISAC Gallery and the Library, the craft will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Trail & District Public Library.

The Teck Series continues with the amazing Will Stroet and his CBC Kids TV show Will’s Jams: Rocks & Roots on Feb. 23 a mix of educational rock, pop, and blues songs full of witty wordplay. Followed on April 26 by ventriloquist Kellie Haines and her chatty bird Magrau in the confidence boosting show A Birdy Told Me So. The series wraps up withtwo-time Guinness World RecordHolder, and self-described “human cartoon”, Alez Zerbe: The Zaniac with his high energy show of comedy and physical stunts on May 24.

So, share the gift of live entertainment with your family and broaden your child’s artistic horizons with the performing arts as you move, groove, laugh and ponder at this family-oriented season.

The Teck Family Series is recommended for families with kids aged 4-10 and is sponsored by Teck Trail Operations and made possible by the generous support of BC Arts Council, BC Touring Council and the Government of Canada.

Individual tickets are on sale now at $12 per show, or $15 at the door. Or, get one of our amazing series deals with an Individual Family Series Pass (4 shows) for $40 or a Family of 4 Pass (4 shows for 4 people) for $144!
