In support of the BC education sector’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the suspension of in-school classes, the BC Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association (BCPVPA) is now offering BC teachers free access to the online resource and collaboration platform BetterEducate.

Educators at the K-12 level in BC will use a special promo code for the platform where they can share resources, links and strategies both at their own District level and province-wide, and collaborate on materials and methodology that can support Elementary, Middle and Secondary school learners. Educators will have free access to the vast existing library of resources in BetterEducate, established by the BCPVPA’s members and other educators.

BCPVPA President David DeRosa is a strong advocate for BetterEducate, and recognizes that the platform can serve as one common space where BC’s educators can come together to support the continuity of learning for BC students. “There are excellent resources available, from so many sources. I believe we are all discovering that our social distancing, and our focused preparation for a new approach to learning, has accelerated the flurry of shared materials online. BetterEducate provides the ability for educators to collaborate on resources and strategies, and to co-edit materials. Because users can tag their own experience and interests, it’s a great place to help each other to find solutions. People can connect both with their colleagues, and with thought leaders in the province. It’s very interactive, and we need that connection and collaboration to ensure that we are being most effective in providing educational opportunities for all of our students.”

“Our goal in opening this platform for free access is to help educators to curate their own materials, and to find new resources that might be perfect for remote learners and their families: we are really pleased to fully share those resources, and to invite our teacher colleagues into this space for collaboration. If an educator can make a connection on BetterEducate, and find a sense of comfort in that collaboration, then we’ve reached our goal. Ultimately, we’re all supporting BC’s students and their success in every way that we can, and we do that best when we come together as a community.”

BC’s K-12 educators are encouraged to reach out to their representative body, their District or their Principal to initiate their secure access to BetterEducate.

The BC Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association is a voluntary professional association representing more than 2,575 school leaders in BC’s 60 public school districts. The BCPVPA provides its members with the professional services and support they need to provide outstanding leadership in public education.
