The City of Castlegar’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is supporting evacuees from nearby electoral area “J”.

Earlier today, the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) issued an evacuation order for the Broadwater Road area of Robson and requested the City of Castlegar’s EOC support the local Emergency Support Services which are checking residents into the Sandman Inn in Castlegar as part of the evacuation process.

The City of Castlegar is not currently part of the local state of emergency or evacuation alerts and orders issued by the RDCK for the majority of the region.

“We know this is a scary time for people in our surrounding communities and our team will do everything we can to help,” says Emergency Operations Centre Director, Duane Monsen.

The City’s Public Works Crew is actively monitoring all creeks and catch basins and does not anticipate any issues within the City at this time.

The City’s Emergency Operations Centre has been active for 75 days as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our EOC would like to thank City of Castlegar residents that have signed up for emergency text and phone alerts from the RDCK. At this time, all information is for surrounding communities; however, in the event of an emergency in the City of Castlegar, our EOC will use the RDCK’s alert system as one of our notification tools.

For more information about evacuations and emergency preparedness, along with other resources, please visit the RDCK website or the PreparedBC websiteThe RDCK EOC public inquiry line is 250-352-1572.
