  • Council endorsed two applications to the Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program for:

    • Up to $600,000 through Community Economic Resilience funding stream to support proposed improvements to the West Kootenay Regional Airport terminal; and
    • Up to $175,000 through the Destination Attraction funding stream to support community gateway and wayfinding improvements.
  • Council adopted the 2021 Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw which provides permissive tax exemptions to non-profit groups which provide services that benefits residents of the City and support the City’s Strategic Plan.
  • To support business recovery efforts, Council extended the City’s Open Streets Pilot Project until Oct. 31, 2021.
  • Council received a presentation from WildSafeBC Coordinator, Pat Wray, on the work done this spring and summer in Castlegar. WildSafeBC is the provincial leader in preventing conflict with wildlife through collaboration, education and community solutions.
  • Council deferred making changes to where and how it holds Council meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic until January 2021. Council will continue meeting electronically using Zoom. If residents do not have access to a computer, they can view Council meetings in the Council Chambers at the Community Forum.
  • Council supported drafting a new Animal Control Bylaw and including $51,500 for contracting the BCSPCA for Animal Control Services in the 2021 Draft Budget for consideration.
  • Council approved borrowing up to $85,000 for two ½ ton pickup trucks to replace trucks that were taken out of service earlier this year due to safety concerns.
