UPDATE: Teen victims of Sunday stabbing recovering from non-life-threatening injuries
Two teenagers who suffered stab wounds in a home invasion Sunday will likely be okay.
While they are understandably unprepared to speak to the media at this time, one of the girls’ parents reached out to ease the minds of a concerned community, and says one of the teens has been released from hospital and is home recovering with her family, while the other is still being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at KBRH in Trail.
Their names will not be released at this time.

Castlegar RCMP are investigating the stabbing of two Castlegar teenagers, according to Castlegar RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Monty Taylor.
“On Feb. 21, at approximately 1:30am Castlegar RCMP and Emergency Services were called to the 1000 block of 2 Street (not Avenue, as earlier reported), Castlegar, for a report of a distraught female requiring emergency services,” Taylor said. “Within minutes, police arrived and were re-directed to Castlegar Paramedics who were a short distance away from the initial call, tending to two Castlegar youths under the age of 16, both suffering from stab wounds.
“The matter is still under investigation, but it appears the suspect female, after leaving the address in the 1000 block of 2 Street, attended to a nearby private residence and gained entry. Upon entering the residence, the suspect confronted two teenage occupants, (whereafter) an altercation ensued with both occupants being stabbed by the suspect, one occupant receiving multiple stab wounds,” Taylor said. “After the attack, the suspect fled on foot but was shortly (after) apprehended in the area by police. Both victims were transported to hospital by ambulance. The extent of the injuries, especially to the one victim, are believed to be serious and the victim is anticipated to spend some time recovering in hospital. Both victims and their families are recovering physically and emotionally after this incident.
“”Twenty-nine-year-old Sasha Margaret Prokaski, of no fixed address but recent to Castlegar, is currently in police custody after being formally charged with Break and Enter, Aggravated Assault, Assault with a Weapon and two counts of Uttering Threats. The victims and Prokaski were unknown to each other and it appears Prokaski had no known affiliation to the residence. RCMP are continuing to investigate and forward information to the BC Prosecution Service for full charge assessment. Prokaski’s next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the Castlegar Provincial Courthouse.
“Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Castlegar RCMP at 250-365-7721.”
