Chamber to host All Candidates Forum via Zoom for Castlegar by-election

The Castlegar & District Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an All Candidates Forum on Wednesday, April 7, at 6 p.m. via Zoom. The forum will commence promptly at 6 p.m.. The evening will start with all candidates providing a three-minute opening platform speech. Candidates will be chosen in alphabetical order with mayoral candidates speaking first, followed by the councillor candidates. Once the platform speeches are completed, there will be a Question and Answer period. The format for the Q and A will be as follows: Questions that have been submitted from registered guests will be pulled from a hat. The question will be directed to the candidate listed or chosen in order of who is next in order for a question. The person will have two minutes to respond. Once the response is completed, other candidates can use a rebuttal card for a one minute response to the question that was answered. All candidates will have three rebuttal cards to use. The evening will be completed with a two-minute closing speech. The order will be reverse from the opening speeches, with councillors starting first in reverse alphabetical order followed by the mayoral candidates. The chat component of this zoom event will be disabled to maximize response time for all candidates. 

This is the chosen format for this forum.  If you would like to attend this type of an All Candidates forum, please register as stated above. This event is limited to up to 500 screens including the candidates. If you would like to submit a question send to cdcoc@castlegar.com. Questions must be respectful, with a candidate’s name of to whom you would like it directed too and your full name.  Deadline for questions will be Wednesday, March 31 at 3 p.m.

The slate of candidates for the mayoral race includes Florio Vassilakakis, Lawrence Chernoff, Kirk Duff, Gord Lamont and Gord Zaitsoff, while the contenders for council are Brian Bogle, Heather Fancy, Shirley Falstead and Sandy Bojechko. The byelection general voting day will be April 24, with advanced polling on Paril 14 and April 21, as well as the option of mail-in ballot for residents who apply by March 26.
