It’s time to put your Sculpturewalking shoes on! Castlegar has once again welcomed a huge variety of amazing artwork to beautify and enliven the city’s downtown core and offer a welcome attraction for residents and regional visitors

“The past year has very challenging for arts and culture organizations,” says Sculpturewalk Executive Joy Barrett, “and we’re very fortunate to have the continued support of the City of Castlegar and our wonderful sponsors so that we can continue with our program and champion our talented artists at a time when they need it most. Because we’re are an outdoor-based event which isn’t tethered to large social gatherings, or reliant on ticket sales for revenue, we’re uniquely positioned to provide a cultural expression that can bring us together and meet the community’s need for activity and celebration during these difficult times.”

The sculptures will stay in place for a year, with voting for the People’s Choice Award open from May until October. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will be purchased by the City of Castlegar for its growing permanent collection. Ballots/maps are available along the Sculpturewalk route, and full program brochures will be available at City Hall, the Kootenay Gallery, and the Castlegar & District Visitor Centre in the next two weeks.

Many years of hard work and success have led to Castlegar’s international recognition as The Sculpture Capital of Canada™. To maintain this legacy at a time when community spirit is challenged in every corner of the world speaks volumes about Castlegar Sculpturewalk’s continued support and community solidarity.
