Law-breaker makes it easy for RCMP to nab him

On Feb. 25 at 1:20 p.m., a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer observed a 68-year-old Trail man allegedly about to drink an alcoholic beverage inside his vehicle while parked in a parking lot across from the Trail Detachment located at 3601 Laburnum Drive, in Trail.
Trail top cop RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said the officer and his partner approached the man and began an investigation.
‘”The man said he was waiting for his passenger who was picking up her license after it was allegedly seized for driving while impaired,” Wicentowich said. “The man claimed he was unaware that his beverage contained alcohol. A demand was read to the man, and it was determined that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was not impaired by alcohol.
”During this time, the officers discovered that his vehicle had been uninsured since 2020. His passenger, a 42-year-old Trail woman, walked away from the area after witnessing the police interaction with the man.
”The 68-year-old Trail man received a $598 fine for No Insurance contrary to Section 24(3)(b) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act, a $109 fine for Wrong Number Plate contrary to Section 13(1)(C) BC MVA, and a $230 fine for Possess Open Liquor in a Motor Vehicle contrary to Section 76(2) of the BC Liquor Control Act.’
His vehicle was towed impounded.
