The Trail & District Arts Council is very excited to get the community back together this Summer at Gyro Park for Kootenay Savings Music in The Park. With thirteen shows and two acts per night, from June 16 to September 1, it’s still the perfect opportunity for all the family to get together outside and listen to great live music.

The series starts Thursday, June 16 with local favourites the Trail Pipe Band, joined by the Scotties School of Highland Dance, and Boomer kicking off the season. Followed by a string of great shows with something for everyone, from fiddle to folk, country to rock ‘n’roll, blues to psychedelic jazz rock!

The Night Markets will also return on July 7 and August 4 from 5-8.30 pm! Organized by Trail & District Arts Council in partnership with Trail’s incrEDIBLE Farmer’s Market, The Night Market is a fun evening of food, vendors, beer garden, and of course live music.

The July 7 Night Market will is headlined by the genre hopping music of Petunia and the Vipers at 7 pm, described as hillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime-goodtime-thunderously rolling-one-of-a-kind-you-don’t-want-to-miss-this-sort-of-a-show. Opening the night will be the gritty and soulful Canadian roots music of The Judy Brown Band at 6:15 pm.

Then, the August 4 Night Market has the tough and tender ballads of Jenie Thai as headliner. Jenie plays barrelhouse piano steeped in the blues with influences from musicians including Tom Waits, Memphis Slim, Nina Simone, and Bonnie Raitt. Opening the evening is the soulful, funky, fun, danceable blues of the Holly Hyatt Trio at 6:15 pm.

On June 23, Diamond Willow opens for the Trail Maple Leaf Band for an evening of classic country rock meets concert band pieces featuring music from the movies. Then, rounding out the month on June 30, see Sly Violet open for the Heavyweights Brass Band for energetic, folk-rock meets New Orleans-inspired brass.

After the Night Market on July 7, catch the Mountain String Band as they open for the Lisa Nicole Band on July 14, for a night of bluegrass fiddle meets modern country. Then July 21 sees local rock-punk youngsters Blackout Summer open for Montreal’s Clerel playing classic soul and vintage R n’ B. The month is rounded out on July 28 by Winnipeg nine piece Apollo Suns playing jazzy, psychedelic rock after local rockin’ blues band Baker Street Blues.

After the Night Market kicks off August, we kick up the energy with a special Wednesday night show on August 10 with TruckVanCar‘s alt., soul, reggae, rock sounds opening for 12-piece brass-funk dance beast My Son the Hurricane. Then locals night comes to Music in the Park as fun cover band RUCKUS opens for jazzy rhythm and blues band Plan B. Local lads The Hillties open on August 18 with their special blend of ska, reggae, hip-hop and funk. Followed by the blues, folk, rock, pop and country blend of WCMA blues artist of the year, and two-time JUNO nominated singer-songwriter, Ndidi O.

August ends with the perfect pairing on August 25 of indie-folk duo Rumour Mill followed by Brendan McLeod’s modern folk quartet The Fugitives with their foot-stomping sing-alongs, show-stopping a capella ballads and insightful storytelling songs.

The last Kootenays Savings Music in the Park of the year is a fiddle fiesta as the classic fiddle of The Golden City Fiddlers meets the acoustic chamber folk with an otherworldly edge of the Raine Hamilton Trio on Sept 1.

Kootenay Savings Music in the Park is held at Trail’s Gyro Park every Thursday starting at 6.15 pm, except for the Night Market shows on July 7 and August 4 when the event will run from 5 pm. Come down and feel the buzz again at these fabulous outdoor summer events.
