Recount confirms McFaddin's Mayoral win

The City of Castlegar’s Chief Elections Officer has reconfirmed the preliminary election results for the Office of Mayor.

Following the release of the preliminary election results for the Office of Mayor on Saturday, October 15, 2022, the City received a request from a candidate to complete a recount of ballots.

The City completed a recount on Monday, October 17, 2022, and reconfirms the following results:

Lawrence Chernoff received 915 votes, while Maria McFaddin won with 920.

Of the seven council candidates, only one, Florio Vassilakakis, didn’t achieve office. Brian Bogle received the most votes, with 1,478 – 79.8 per cent of the vote.

In Castlegar, 47.35 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballots.

The successful candidates will be sworn in at council’s regular meeting on Nov. 7, 2022.
