Police are urging Rossland residents to lock their vehicles – and not just to thwart thieves.

Trail RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said that on Oct. 23, at 10:28 p.m., RCMP received a report from a Rossland resident that a bear had just trashed the inside of his wife’s 2006 Suzuki Gran Vitara in the 1500 block of Thompson Avenue, in Rossland.

“The bear managed to set off the airbags and car alarm during its rampage,” Wicentowich said. “The bear was scared away when the car alarm activated.”

Unfortunately, the vehicle sustained considerable damage to the interior during the interaction.

Trail RCMP recommends that owners lock their vehicles to prevent this kind of conflict with local wildlife.
