The City of Castlegar is requesting that residents limit their water consumption to essential use only on October 7, 2023.

Water conservation efforts are being requested to accommodate major maintenance activities required at Mercer Celgar. During this time, the City’s main water supply will be restricted and the City will rely on reservoirs for water supply.

During the shutdown, residents are being asked to limit their water consumption to essential use only to aid in preserving capacity in city reservoirs. Essential water use means being mindful of water consumption by avoiding watering lawns, washing vehicles, and doing only full loads of dishes and laundry.

The City has contingency plans to ensure fire protection during the shutdown. Water supply for domestic use will not be affected.

The City appreciates the community’s patience while this important maintenance work is completed.

The City of Castlegar is a service centre in the West Kootenay. The diversified and growing economy is focused on the forestry, energy and mining sectors in the valley, and commercial services in the City. Quality of life features backcountry adventure and an increasingly dynamic urban culture, including the Millennium Park & Ponds and Sculpture Walk.
