Presentation

Tara Pejski, WildSafeBC Community Coordinator, presented an overview of the WildSafeBC activities during the 2023 season. Tara shared the success of wildlife safety and attractant control education sessions in the community, including WildSafeBC Ranger presentations for school-aged children and wildlife/Bear Smart presentations for community groups. Contract Award

Council awarded Request for Quotation 2023-26 Supply & Delivery of Calcium Chloride to NSC Minerals Ltd. for $0.4349/Litre plus taxes. The City uses calcium chloride, mixed with beet juice, for preventative control and the removal of ice buildup on roads, sidewalks, and trails during winter months.

Community Events

  • Council formalized its support for the Castlegar Rotary Club creating and administering a Bavarian-themed annual winter holiday event, with a Council liaison.
  • Council directed staff to prepare a report exploring the potential of forming a Council-appointed community member-based Special Events Commission. This stemmed from a discussion during the November 6 Regular Council Meeting where Council discussed the future of City-sponsored events.

2023 City Hall Holiday Closure

Council approved the closure of City Hall to the public on December 27, December 28, and December 29. This in addition to the statutory holiday closures on December 25, December 26, and January 1. The City Hall closure will not impact City services such as snow clearing, emergency services, and curbside collection.

2024 Council Meeting Schedule
