Trail RCMP said that a local woman is facing charges after a fire broke out near a downtown business recently in the Silver City.

RCMP said that on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 2:49 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District received a report about a suspicious fire in the 1200 block of Esplanade Avenue, in downtown Trail, BC.

Police said Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Department attended the scene to extinguish the fire with minor damage to the property as a result of the fire.

RCMP said the officer reviewed video surveillance footage which showed a 55-year-old Trail woman allegedly setting the fire.

The officer located and arrested the woman for Arson contrary to Section 434 of the Criminal Code. The woman was later released on conditions.

Trail RCMP will forward a report to Crown Counsel for review.

The 55-year-old woman will make her first appearance on June 20, 2024, in Provincial Court, in Rossland.

“Please report all suspicious fires in the downtown Trail to fire and police,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“As the hot dry conditions approach, we need to remain vigilant to protect the safety of our communities.”
