On May 10, 2024, Sgt. Dayne Campbell of the Vancouver Police Department stopped in Castlegar during his solo trip on his bicycle across Canada.  Sgt. Campbell, a veteran officer of VPD, is cycling across Canada to raise funds for Cops for Cancer.  In addition to raising financial support, Sgt. Campbell’s goal is to bring awareness across Canada in hopes others will become involved in the program: VPD Sergeant Cycling Across Canada in Support of Pediatric Cancer – Vancouver Police Foundation.

Cst. Ron George, a member of the Castlegar RCMP, met with Sgt. Campbell on his ride down the Paulson Pass on Hwy 3, and together they arrived at the Castlegar RCMP Detachment. Cst. George has been a rider for the Cops for Kids program for 9 years and wanted to show his support for the dedication and compassion of Sgt. Campbell.  Castlegar RCMP and Fire Department greeted Sgt. Campbell where he shared his story about his lengthy participation with Cops for Cancer over the years, and how a recent cancer diagnosis of his teenage daughter brought about this adventure in travelling across Canada.

After filling up his water bottles, Sgt. Campbell departed Castlegar for Salmo, where his journey continues anticipating to arrive in Halifax within 45 – 60 days.

Anyone wishing to donate in support of Sgt. Campbell can do so through the Canadian Cancer Society website Tour de Coast 2024: Dayne’s Ride Across Canada – Canadian Cancer Society, or through the Vancouver Police Foundation VPD Sergeant Cycling Across Canada in Support of Pediatric Cancer – Vancouver Police Foundation.
